Torstai
Pojan jatkaa synttärijuhlien viettoa, tällä kertaa eilen koulussa. Tänä vuonna Poika ei saanut kruunua päähänsä niin kuin viime vuonna, koska koko koulu luokkahuoneita myöden on ollut remontoitavana kesäkuun alusta asti ja lapset viettävät päivät suuressa leikkisalissa eikä opettajilla liene siellä askartelutarvikkeita käsillä. "Tanti auguri" (Paljon onnea) kuitenkin laulettiin ennen kuin ryhdyttiin syömään vanilja- ja suklaavanukkaita ja juomaan mehua. Poika jakoi luokkakavereille myös pienet namipussukat, joihin olimme tuoneet Suomesta Muumi-tikkareita ja muita karkkeja.

Thursday
Little Boy continues to celebrate his birthday, this time at school yesterday. This year he didn't get a crown on his head like last year because the whole school has been under renovations since the beginning of June and the children spend their days in the big playroom where the teachers most probably don't have any crafts materials with them. But of course they sang "Tanti auguri" (Happy Birthday to You) to him before eating vanilla and chocolate puddings and drank juice. Little Boy also gave everyone a small bag of sweets which contained Moomin lollipops and other Finnish caramels.

Maanantai
Italialaisille juhannus on aivan tavallinen viikonloppu, mutta me paikalliset suomalaiset kokoonnuimme juhannuspäivänä läheiselle uimarannalle eväät mukana grillaamaan ja uimaan. Me olimme tänä vuonna mukana jo kolmannen kerran ja sää suosi niin kuin aiempinakin vuosina.

Monday
For Italians last weekend was just like any other weekend but we local Finns gathered on a nearby beach to barbecue and to swim as it was Midsummer. This was already the third time for us and the weather was fine like on previous years.

Perheenisä ja poika maksamassa pääsymaksua. Alueella on hyvät vessat ja pukukopit, lentopallokenttä, kioski sekä grilli- ja picnic-alue. Me suuntasimme sinne.

Perheenisä ja Poika virittämässä tulta grilliin. Pienellä lisämaksulla voi varata pöydän ja grillin omaan käyttöön.

Syömisen jälkeen oli uimisen aika. Poika totutteli ensin matalassa rantavedessä krokotiilin kyytiin.

After eating it was time to go swimming. At first Little Boy tried his crocodile on the shallow water.

Vaan eipä mennyt kauaakaan, kun piti jo päästä pidemmälle rannasta.

It didn't take long before he wanted to go farther from the shore.

Sunnuntaina vietimme pienet synttärijuhlat paikallisten kavereiden kanssa. Seuraavaksi juhlitaan koulussa tällä viikolla ja vielä Suomessakin, kunhan ensin pääsemme sinne asti.

On Sunday we had a small birthday party for his friends here in Italy. Next he is going to have a party at school this week and once more in Finland when we get there.

Tuesday
Summer has brought all sorts of things for us to wonder about.

Telttasaunan helmoista löytyi suuri kotilo.

This big snail was found in the hem of the tent sauna.

Sunnuntaina illalla pihapuun kylkeen lennähti tamminkainen. Ei mikään turhan pieni koppiainen!

On Sunday evening a stag beetle flew on a tree in our garden. Not the smallest beetle in the world!

Tiedättekös mikä tämä on? Raaka hasselpähkinäterttu suoraan pensaasta.

Do you know what this is? A bunch of raw hazelnuts from a tree.

Ja sisällä on sisilisko, jossain. Perheenisä ja Poika leikkivät vesipyssyllä ja ruiskulla sunnuntaina ja onnistuivat jahtaamaan yhden liskon sisälle avoimesta ovesta. Se vilahti suoraan jääkaapin alle eikä sitä ole sen koommin nähty. Perheenäiti hiippailee sisällä hissukseen ja nostelee tavaroita varovasti odottaen liskon hyökkäystä hetkenä minä hyvänsä! Otus viihtyy varmasti hyvin sisällä, nurkista löytyy hämähäkkejä syötäväksi eivätkä mahdolliset sadekuurot haittaa.

And inside we have a lizard, somewhere. Daddy and Little Boy were playing with a water gun and a syringe on Sunday and managed to chase one lizard in through the open door. It ran straight under the fridge and hasn't been seen since. Mummy is tiptoeing inside silently and is picking up things very carefully waiting for the lizard to attack! The creature is most probably very happy being inside the house, there are spiders in the corners and no discomfort from possible rain.

Tiistai
Lauantaina olimme juhlimassa Pojan kaverin 6-vuotissynttäreitä ratsastustallien yhteydessä olevassa trattoriassa. Kutsussa jo oli mainittu, että lapsille saattaa olla mahdollista kokeilla poniratsastusta ja se onnistuikin, kun kaatosade ja ukkonen yhtäkkiä taukosivat.

Ihan ensin Poika sanoi, ettei halua ratsastaa, mutta menimme kuitenkin muiden mukana katsomaan hevosia ja poneja eikä kestänyt kauaakaan, kun Poika muutti mielensä, kunhan vain Perheenisä tulee mukaan pitämään kädestä kiinni.

Tuesday
Last Saturday we were invited to Little Boy's friend's 6-year birthday party which was held in a trattoria by riding stables. It was mentioned in the invitation that there might be a possibility for the children to do a short ride on a pony and we were lucky when the pouring rain and thunder suddenly stopped.

At first Little Boy said he doesn't want to ride but we went with the others to see the horses and ponies though. In the end it didn't take long for Little Boy to change his mind if Daddy came with him to hold his hand.

Poika odottaa vuoroaan. Kypärä tuntui vähän hassulta lippalakin jälkeen.

Helluntaimaanantai ja Italian kansallispäivä tiistaina olivat Pojalla ja Perheenisällä vapaapäiviä koulusta ja töistä. Vapaapäivien urakkana oli pensasaidan leikkuu ja sitä varten saimme lainaksi vähän järeämmän leikkurin, koska omamme ei olisi jaksanut leikata paksuja oksia. Aidasta oli selvästi muutamana kesänä leikattu vain ohut vuosikasvu, mutta nyt Perheenisä päätti listiä aidan samalle tasolle naapurin kanssa.

Wednesday
Pentecost Monday and Italian National Day on Tuesday were holidays for Little Boy and Daddy from school and work. We spend those days by cutting the hedge and for that we borrowed a heavy cutter because our own couldn't cut the thick branches. It was evident that during the past years only the yearly thin crowth had been trimmed off but this time Daddy decided to cut the hedge to the same level with our neighbour.

Tästä työ alkoi.

Edistystä. Pensas on metrin verran matalampi.

Progress. The hedge is almost a meter lower.

Lähes koko puutarhan puoli tehtynä. Ensimmäisen päivän urakka alkaa olla valmiina.

The garden side is almost done. The first day's work is starting to be finished.

Seuraavana päivänä vielä toinenkin puoli, ja nyt aurinko paistaa iltaisin keittiön ikkunasta sisään!

Next day the other side as well and now we have sunshine through the kitchen window in the evenings!
