Ensimmäinen viikko Italiassa on ollut lämmin ja aurinkoinen. Kun hämähäkit saatiin häädettyä sisältä, siirryimme raivaamaan kesän aikana villiintynyttä puutarhaa ja pensasaitoja. Pitkä ja sitkeä saraheinä oli vallannut nurmikon, mutta nyt parin leikkuun jälkeen apila ja hentoinen nurmikkokin nostavat taas päätään. Etuovelle johtavia portaita reunustavat pensasaidat kukkivat kauniisti kesällä ja ovat sen jälkeen kasvaneet melkoisesti ja niiden leikkuuseen ryhdyimme eilen koko perhe. Perheenisä huristeli pensasleikkurilla, Poika nipsutteli oksasaksilla ja Perheenäiti keräsi leikkuujätteen laatikkoon poisvietäväksi. Homma oli hikistä, kun aurinko paistaa talon etupuolelle koko päivän aivan iltaan asti, mutta nyt meillä on taas siisti etupiha.

Hyvin vauhtiin päässyt leikkuu keskeytyi äkisti, kun autotallin yläpuolella roikkuvan pensasaidan sisältä yhtäkkiä pörräsi ilmoille pieni ampiaislauma. Olivat alkaneet tehdä pesää oksien keskelle. Onneksi se oli vielä pieni eikä asukkaita ollut kovin paljon ja kiukkuiset pörisijät katosivat aika nopeasti.

Our first week in Italy has been warm and sunny. When all the spiders were finally cleaned out of the house we started to clear the garden and the hedges. Long hay had taken over the lawn but now that is has been mowed twice clover and grass are starting to raise their heads again. The hedge growing by the stairs leading to the front door was flowering beautifully in the summer and since than has grown a lot so we cut them yesterday. Daddy used the hedge trimmer, Little Boy had the hegge scissors and Mummy collected the cuttings in a box to be taken away. It was a hot work as the sun is shining in the front side of the house the whole day and evening but now we have a tidy front yard again.

Daddy had to stop cutting the hedge quite suddenly as a small heard of bees buzzed out of the hedge. They had started to make a hive there. Fortunately they hadn't gotten too far and there weren't too many bees yet, they flew away quite quickly.

Ampiaispesä löytyi tästä kohtaa autotallin oven yläpuolelta. 

The beehive was here above the garage door.

Poika innostui työntämään kottikärryjä. Ensin vauhdilla eteenpäin...

Little Boy had fun pushing the wheelbarrow, first running forwards...

...ja sitten peruuttamalla.

...and then reversing.

Loppukesän ilma on aamuisin ja iltaisin jo sen verran kosteaa, että etanoita on löytynyt takapihalta aamukasteiselta nurmikolta ja eilen illalla yksi päätti kiivetä seinälle.

The air at the end of the summer is already quite damp and we have seen few snails in the lawn in the morning mist and yesterday evening one wanted to climb on the wall.
