Kesälomalta paluun jälkeen elokuussa pienen vanhan lipaston alimmasta laatikosta löytyivät Perheenisän vanhat auto-, moottoripyörä- ja lentokonekortit. Poika innostui niistä samantien valtavasti. Ensin muisteltiin läpi automerkit, jotka Poika oppi tunnistamaan jo alle kaksivuotiaana, kun Hollannissa kävimme rataskyydillä kauppareissuilla. Mutta aika nopeasti Poika oppi korteissa olevat asiat ja niillä on pelattu ahkerasti. Suosikit ovat olleet "Saksalaiset autot" tai "Iloset menijät", kunnes viime viikolla lelukaupasta löytyi "Superautot" (kuvassa alimpana). Kaupassa oli myös formula-kortit ja ne pitäisi nyt saada seuraavaksi.

Sujuvasti Poika vertailee eri autojen huippunopeuksia, kuutiosenttimetrejä, kierroslukuja, painoa, hevosvoimia, kilowatteja, nollasta sataan kiihtyvyyttä ja tietää tarkasti, että huippunopeus sataseitsemänkymmentäviisi on enemmän kuin satakuusikymmentä tai auto joka kiihtyy nollasta sataan kolme pilkku kuusi on nopeampi kuin neljä pilkku kaksi! Numerot tulevat sujuvasti ihan satasina ja tällä viikolla ovat jo neljän numeron sarjat muuttuneet tuhansiksi: 3005 on kolmetuhattaviisi eikä enää kolme nolla nolla viisi. Perheenisä pelasi korteilla kavereidensa kanssa kymmenen vanhana, ei neljävuotiaana... Kirjaimista ja aakkosista Poika ei ole kovastikaan innostunut, mutta numerot kiinnostavat selvästi.

Little Boy arranges the cards according to maximum speed.

After coming back from summer holidays in August Little Boy found Daddy's old Car, Airplane and Motorcycle Playing Cards at the bottom drawer of an old dresser. He got interested in them immediately. At first he went through all the car makes which he learned already when he was less than two years old while sitting in his pram on our walks to the shops in Holland. But quite quickly he learned all the things in the cards and we have played with them a lot lately. The favourite ones have been "German Cars" or "Merry Cars" until last week we found "Super Cars" in a toyshop (bottom row in the first picture). They also had Formula One Cards and now he would like to have them also.

Very fluently Little Boy compares maximum speeds, cubic centimetres, revolutions, weights, horse powers, kilowatts, acceleration from 0 to 100 and knows exactly that maximum speed of onehundredandseventyfive is more than onehundredandsixty or a car which accelerates from 0 to 100 in three point six is faster than the one doing four point two! He can read the numbers in their hundreds and this week number sequences with four digits have turned into thousands: 3005 is now threethousandandfive instead of three zero zero five. Daddy played with these cards when he was about ten years old, not four... Letters and alphabet don't inspire Little Boy at all but numbers are very interesting.
